PETROL-"THE LIQUID GOLD"
You use petrol to fill up your bike’s tank and after your tank is empty you go back again to fill it up. All this is fine but have you ever wondered what petrol is? Probably not I guess, so that’s why I decided to write an article on this, after all you must know what you are using to fuel your bikes.
A Derivative: Petrol is extracted from crude oil and there are many derivatives which are extracted from crude oil. Diesel, Kerosene, LPG, CNG, White kerosene (aviation fuel), petrol, ethanol, methanol to name a few. Recently the crude oil rates touched an all time record of 148$ a barrel. The rates have come down ever since but the rates are likely to go up in future. The OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) estimates that there is enough crude oil in the world to last another 80 years.
Octane Rating: The normal unleaded petrol you use has an octane rating of 87 or higher. The other octane petrol available in India are 91, 93, 97 RON octane respectively.
Composition: Petrol is made up of aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons along with toluene and benzene. In this, toluene is an explosive and it is used as TNT (trinitrotoluene) in explosives. That’s why petrol is highly inflammable and can explode when it comes in contact with fire. Benzene and Toluene are added to increase the octane rating.
The higher the octane rating the greater the resistance of petrol to explosion, which is why all high performance engines need high octane fuels. High performance engines have high compression ratios compared to normal engines because they produce more power and are high revving. The higher the compression ratio the more efficient the engine is. An example we have is the use of only speed 97-octane petrol for the R1, Hayabusa and racecars in India else their engines wont perform optimally due to loss of power.
So in a nutshell, petrol powers the world and without it life is impossible, use it carefully and judiciously and don’t waste it. Little wonder its called Liquid Gold.

PURE PETROL
Octane Does Matter: Octane rating reflects the quality, purity, refinement, efficiency and heat bearing capacity of petrol. Hence we have different grades of Petrol for different uses ranging for your bikes to spacecrafts. You see crude oil is the raw material for petrol and from it, various derivatives are extracted. The finer and refined the derivative, the better the quality and efficiency of the fuel. So from crude oil there are various stages of refining extraction done that results in so many varieties of fuels with higher Octane ratings. The various Octane ratings of petrol are 87, 88, 89, 90, 91, 93 and 97, which symbolize purity and refinement in increasing order. On one end we have 87 octane which you use for your bike as unleaded and on the other extreme we have 97 octane which fuels the super bikes sold in India as Speed 97. So High Octane fuels are expensive because of high levels of refinement.

MOST COMMON AIR POLLUTANTS
Ozone
A gas that can be found in two places. Near the ground (the troposphere), it is a major part of smog. The harmful ozone in the lower atmosphere should not be confused with the protective layer of ozone in the upper atmosphere (stratosphere), which screens out harmful ultraviolet rays.
Source:
Ozone is not created directly, but is formed when nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds mix in sunlight. That is why ozone is mostly found in the summer. Nitrogen oxides come from burning gasoline, coal, or other fossil fuels. There are many types of volatile organic compounds, and they come from sources ranging from factories to trees.
Effects:
Ozone near the ground can cause a number of health problems. Ozone can lead to more frequent asthma attacks in people who have asthma and can cause sore throats, coughs, and breathing difficulty. It may even lead to premature death. Ozone can also hurt plants and crops.
Carbon monoxide
A gas that comes from the burning of fossil fuels, mostly in cars. It cannot be seen or smelled.
Source:
Carbon monoxide is released when engines burn fossil fuels. Emissions are higher when engines are not tuned properly, and when fuel is not completely burned. Cars emit a lot of the carbon monoxide found outdoors. Furnaces and heaters in the home can emit high concentrations of carbon monoxide, too, if they are not properly maintained.
Effects:
Carbon monoxide makes it hard for body parts to get the oxygen they need to run correctly. Exposure to carbon monoxide makes people feel dizzy and tired and gives them headaches. In high concentrations it is fatal. Elderly people with heart disease are hospitalized more often when they are exposed to higher amounts of carbon monoxide.
Lead
A blue-gray metal that is very toxic and is found in a number of forms and locations.
Source:
Outside, lead comes from cars in areas where unleaded gasoline is not used. Lead can also come from power plants and other industrial sources. Inside, lead paint is an important source of lead, especially in houses where paint is peeling. Lead in old pipes can also be a source of lead in drinking water.
Effects:
High amounts of lead can be dangerous for small children and can lead to lower IQs and kidney problems. For adults, exposure to lead can increase the chance of having heart attacks or strokes.
Toxic air pollutants
A large number of chemicals that are known or suspected to cause cancer. Some important pollutants in this category include arsenic, asbestos, benzene, and dioxin.
Source:
Each toxic air pollutant comes from a slightly different source, but many are created in chemical plants or are emitted when fossil fuels are burned. Some toxic air pollutants, like asbestos and formaldehyde, can be found in building materials and can lead to indoor air problems. Many toxic air pollutants can also enter the food and water supplies.
Effects:
Toxic air pollutants can cause cancer. Some toxic air pollutants can also cause birth defects. Other effects depend on the pollutant, but can include skin and eye irritation and breathing problems.

NEW SOURCE OF ENERGY-"ALTERNATIVE TO PETROL"
An alternate source of energy is Hydrogen. It is NOT carbon based therefore no CO,CO2 or hydrocarbons. The by-product of combustion using hydrogen is H2O (pure water vapor).Hydrogen is one the most abundant elements on the planet. It bonds easily with Oxygen and other elements. That is why it works well in fuel cells to produce electricity. Fuel cells combine hydrogen and oxygen, during this process electrons are released. They are then collected and concentrated to produce electricity. The emissions are pure water vapor. The largest obstacle in cracking the hydrogen from other compounds is cost. The cost to produce pure hydrogen from water or other compounds like natural gas is high and conventional generating plants create carbon pollution in the process. Use of clean generating systems like solar, wind, hydraulic, nuclear and geo-thermal can be utilized to produce the 99.97% pure hydrogen needed for fuel cells without increasing carbon dioxide levels. Wind generated electricity used to power a test facility reformer (a reformer separates hydrogen from natural gas or other compounds) recently brought the cost down to about $5 a gallon equivalent. A light-weight on-board storage system that is crash safe to use in an automotive application is being developed. If we concentrated our efforts on hydrogen and forgot Ethanol we'll be better off. BTW, NASA flew a small (2 seater) airplane a few years ago using a Hydrogen fuel cell and electric motor powerplant.Ethanol is carbon based, produces less energy than gasoline and uses our food and water supplies.Ethanol carries about 54% of the energy of contained in 87 octane unleaded gasoline. Hydrogen carries about 120% based on a gallon equivalent of 87 octane unleaded gasoline.Oh yeah, we can reform hydrogen from methane that comes from human and animal waste and other forms of biologic waste. And in a hydrogen economy we would create many new jobs. Another American product and technology. That is if we don't allow the big corporations to sell us out.
GREEN PC-"Eco-friendly computer from EUROCOM"
Eurocom has done it again with its innovative designs. This instance instead of a desktop equal notebook, which is their specialty, it is an Eco-friendly PC or the green desktop.
What ever you poverty to call it, this all-in-one product basically eliminates the mouse completely. Its touch screen technology enables users to navigate the screen and open and near documents and programs with the touch of a finger or with a stylus (included).
This is a new artefact of computing and it does take some instance to get a feel for it, but I have to stay it was a totally natural artefact of interfacing with the computer.
Now, you ease need a keyboard. The Eurocom unit does not become with a keyboard and I crapper see where the company is coming from. However, it was impracticable to operate the PC with out it.
For example, you ease needed to type in your password for the wireless Internet connection. Finding a digital keyboard on Windows XP was too hard and too instance consuming and it would not be a natural artefact of computing in my opinion.
The only another problem with the Eco-friendly PC is that you cannot shut off the screen while ease operating the computer. It forces you to shut down the grouping each instance you poverty to stop.
But that is it. With this unit, Eurocom claims it has the most energy efficient/recyclable product on the market. And, they just might. CDN has not done a product comparison on these products. To be fair, we haven't seen another vendors display a similar type product. So kudos goes to Eurocom for being innovative.
The Eco-friendly PC was prefabricated with a low carbon footprint in mind. It uses just 53 watts to operate and crapper go as high as 74 watts. To give you an idea of how low this is, the average desktop PC consumes between 300 to 400 watts of power when it is fully operational.
The product is prefabricated of 100 per cent recycled parts. It weights just under 10 Kg. and it crapper be quite portable. I moved the unit with ease to many areas of the office and at home. The diminutive form bourgeois (450mm width x 312mm length and 66.5mm height) gives users a lot of workspace room.
At a price tag of $1,299 for the 19-inch mode of the Eurocom Eco-friendly PC, this product comes at a reasonable price considering all the advantages users would get with reduced consumption rates.
