BEST ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE

Market is flooded with so many Antivirus, Antimalware and Internet Security packages that it is difficult to find a genuinely effective one.There continues to be several arguments with regards to which is the best. Here is a fair review from my own experience.

The Best Three:

1. Kaspersky Internet Security.
2. BitDefender Internet Security.
3. Eset NOD32 AntiVirus.

You don't see several familiar names here...and that is what this article is all about.

It is natural to expect Techies of these nations (Russia and other other eastern European) are thus well aware of the tricks their fellow countrymen (the hackers) employ to create Trojans and viruses. They were best at detecting most kind of Malware. It should be no wonder if the best Anti-Virus Packeges too are from these Nations.

Just look at this-

Kaspersky Lab... a Russian company
Bitdefender......a Romanian Company
Eset.............a Slovakian Company

and it turns out indeed they are the best Antivirus companies.

Testing and Benchmarks.

No Antivirus can detect all viruses. This is a fact. Best Anti-Virus is one which detects most of them. We call this detection rate.

Kaspersky, Bitdefender and NOD32 have been consistently observed to have highest detection rates in the Industry. Many times more than 90%. While most of others have a detection rates of 80%-90% (Of Course this is arguable given there are several testings giving different results)

Kaspersky engine is used in other enterprise level security solutions and is regarded very high amongst Hackers.

NOD32 antivirus too is said to be used in Microsoft Internal Security.

Why are they not Popular?

Then comes an obvious question... If these three are the best why are they not so popular among general public? Answer: Marketing.

Norton and McAfee are two of the most popular Anti-Virus vendors.These are American Companies. Almost all of the PCs ,When bought ,are provided with a limited period version of these softwares. For example, all dell systems by default carry 15 month McAfee Security.

when his Antivirus expires, what an average guy does? He buys the same package for one more year. Often that is only brand he knows. This lead proliferation to not so effective Anti-Viruses in the market despite availability of better ones.
